In retrospect, Monday's entry might've been a bit too blase. People are going to get their heads blown off, their guts torn out, have their bodies torn to shreds. They're going to grieve for the loss of husbands, wives, children, friends. Very few of them will be Americans, but that doesn't make their suffering any less real.
Those Iraqis who survive, with their homes and families intact, may have much better lives ahead of them. They'll be free of a vicious dictator, at least for a little while. The sanctions will be lifted, and they may have more food on the table, more medicine in their clinics. God knows how long this good fortune will last, of course, but I expect at least some good will come of the war.
Don't get me wrong, I oppose this war. I think the world will be a more dangerous place after it's over. But no one knows for sure, least of all me. So all I can do is ignore the news as best I can, and hope for the best.
