Blaming the State Department
Apr. 22nd, 2003 05:48 pmAs many of you already know, Newt Gingrich is calling for "bold, dramatic change" in the State Department. He blames Foggy Bottom for recent diplomatic disasters, and accuses them of "a deliberate and systematic effort to undermine the president's policies."
Just for the record, let me point out that the State Department failed largely because it had to implement Bush's policies. And even then, it was undermined at every turn by the big-mouths at AEI and the Pentagon.
I'd call these comments monumentally stupid if I didn't think they were appalingly cynical. I have no doubt that conservative pundits will pick up the message and blare it from every talk show in America. And this, no doubt, will lead to a purge of anyone with an ounce of integrity at the State Department.
