Eyes on Fire
Apr. 28th, 2003 07:10 pmI've got a cold, and normally that wouldn't be much of a problem. Except I've had this, um, condition since the mid-1990s -- I don't know what else to call it -- which turns a simple sinus infection into something much worse.
For some weird reason, when I get a sinus infection (usually from a simple cold), my immune system attacks my eyes. No one knows why. My eyes turn blood red and burn and sting. The first attacks (again, in the mid-1990s) were the worst, and they had me quite literally howling and doubled-over in pain. They haven't been nearly as bad since, although they're still irritating and uncomfortable.
Unfortunately, the more I read, write, watch TV or use the computer, the worse the pain is. So I spend a lot of time sleeping, or lying in bed with the lights out. There isn't much else to do but wait in a dark room for the cold to pass.
