I thought the Mexico story might get more attention over the weekend, after Paul Krugman's NYT editorial. I even made some effort to publicize it myself. (I told Josh Marshall about it, and contacted a few Latino rights organizations.) The story seems to have vanished, though.

Oh, well. Time to move on to something else, I guess.

Link from Atrios: The US House cafeteria, following restaurants across the land, will call french toast and french fries "freedom toast" and "freedom fries."

So they're following the example of our WWI predecessors, who changed sauerkraut to "liberty cabbage." Of course, they had more of an excuse (the Germans were blowing up our ships, the French are voting against us in the Security Council), but 85 years later the WWI-jingos still look like stupid bigots. Are they aware of the parallels? Probably not.

I can't wait for them to change "french kissing" to "freedom kissing."
