A Treat for My Liberal Readers
Sep. 8th, 2003 11:47 pmIf you haven't read William Safire's latest column, go and do so. It is amazing, truly amazing, possibly the most vacuous op-ed ever written by anybody. My favorite bit: "Iraqis are shown on TV blaming American troops -- not Baathist-paid terrorists -- for lack of electric power, lack of water and lack of protection (though 11,000 elderly Iraqis did not die from lack of care in the summer heat)." This sentence has it all. Irrelevant, tasteless (Safire giggles at the death of 11,000 Frenchmen), and contemptuous of the people Safire is so eager to "liberate." The stunted soul of today's GOP stands naked on the NYT Op-Ed page, and I'm happy to see it exposed.
